A lapsed Gastroenterologist / General Physician turned physician executive normally based on the Bellarine Peninsula. Was in clinical practice in Western Victoria from 1991, in both the public and private sector until 2012. A five-year stint as Clinical Director of Internal Medicine in Ballarat.
Associate Professors Phelps consulting interests include clinical leadership, clinical engagement and clinical quality improvement and have led to his current role as Director of Clinical Governance at Central Adelaide Local Health Network, incorporating the new Royal Adelaide Hospital.
He has had a longstanding involvement in RACP through Physician Training and RACP Policy as a member of the former Committee for Physician Training, a DPT, and a National Panel examiner. More recently has chaired the Quality Expert Advisory Group and have had the pleasure of co-chairing with Sarah Dalton the College’s work to develop the Supporting Physician’s Professionalism and Performance (SPPP) framework.
In recent years he had the privilege of being on the Board of RACP as an AMD elected representative, and subsequently and currently as President of the Adult Medicine Division.Back to speakers
