Dr Andrew Hallahan is the Executive Director Medical Services for Children’s Health Queensland and the Medical Lead, Paediatrics for the Clinical Excellence Division Queensland Health. He has worked in children’s healthcare for 25 years as a paediatric oncologist and translational research leader in children’s neuro-oncology. Over the last seven years Dr Hallahan has focused on systems improvement.
As former Medical Lead Patient Safety for Children’s Health Queensland he co-developed the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital Patient Safety Operating System, an interdisciplinary approach to 24/7 safe care. Dr Hallahan established the Queensland Children’s Critical Incident Panel, as a state-wide resource to support expert review of children’s patient safety events.
As the EDMS for Children’s Health Queensland he aims to drive continuous improvement of health systems. His work focuses on improving the reliability of care, reducing unwarranted variation, communication, disclosure and developing learning systems and cultures that deliver high quality child and family-centred care.Back to speakers
