Keynote Speakers

Dr Vallings runs a medical practice in Auckland, which has become specialised over the past 35 years, with patients suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME) and related conditions.  She is involved in diagnosing and managing these patients referred from other doctors and runs regular seminars for these patients. She has published 3 books:  “Diagnosis and management of CFS/ME” (September 2012), “Managing ME/CFS – a guide for young people” (September 2015) and “The Essential Guide to ME/CFS” (September 2017).

Dr Vallings is a medical adviser to ANZMES – the national organisation supporting those with CFS/ME and their president for a number of years.  She has been involved in GP and student education around NZ, regularly attends and presents at international CFS/ME conferences, visited CFS/ME centres overseas and maintains contact with many overseas CFS/ME organisations.

Dr Vallings was a board member and secretary of the International Association for CFS/ME (IACFS/ME) for six years until October 2015 and wrote their regular newsletter.  She reviewed the overseas guidelines for diagnosis and management of CFS/ME for NZ,  is co-author of the IACFS/ME Physicians’ Primer (2014), and Paediatric Primer (2017), and have participated in producing the Canadian and International consensus definitions for CFS/ME.

In January 2008, she was awarded Membership of the NZ Order of Merit in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours for services to CFS/ME, and in October 2016 was awarded the Nelson Gantz Outstanding Clinician Award by the International Association for CFS/ME.
