Fringe Experience

Calling all talented health care professionals, do you have an artistic or creative talent that we can showcase at the RACP Congress 2019? New for 2019, the inaugural RACP Congress Fringe Experience!

The RACP Congress Program Committee have introduced a new initiative to showcase and embrace the different interests and talents of health care professionals. We realise that the talents of health care professionals often go beyond the realms of medicine and we would like to take the opportunity to celebrate the people behind the profession.

The Fringe Experience will comprise of three experience zones:

May health and wellbeing be with you

  • Health and fitness activities – Join your colleagues for morning workouts and re-energise for your day ahead

Health professionals have talent

  • Up to four-minute main stage performances in the Plenary Theatre
  • ‘Open Mic’ showcase in and around the venue during break times

Unplugged zone

  • Showcasing art and photography work created by health care professionals
  • Take a mindful break from the educational content and spend time doing crafts, reading and community related activities

Basic Information

  • The RACP Congress Fringe Experience performance dates are at various times between Monday, 6 May – Wednesday, 8 May 2019.
  • All applications will be reviewed, and applicants will be notified by April 2019.
  • The RACP Congress Fringe Experience will explore a diverse selection of the arts and all talents are welcome (ie. theater, dance, music, readings, performance art, painting, sculpting, photography etc.).
  • The RACP is unable to provide assistance towards transportation, your Congress registration, your accommodation or travel expenses.
  • The RACP is not liable for any damage or loss of property and we recommend supervision by the creator of accepted art pieces to be displayed essential

Once you have chosen your preferred zone, click the button below to submit a brief abstract informing us of what you would like to showcase, enclosing any supporting materials to help us to visualize your work. N.B You may submit for more than one zone as you wish.

Submissions are accepted starting Thursday, 7 February 2019 and final submission deadline is Friday, 8 March, 2018 at 11.59pm.

What You Are Responsible For

  • Acquiring any necessary rights or permissions for your show.
  • Providing costumes, props, set pieces, and cues for your show.
  • Transportation and display of any art pieces

Zones

May health and wellbeing be with you

Focusing on physical health and wellbeing we are offering a free program to Congress attendees to participate in group activities.

Do you have an interest in volunteering? We are accepting applications for:

Yoga or Pilates mentors

  • Do you know your downward dog from your child’s pose?
  • Expressions of interests for volunteers to run an early morning Yoga or Pilates class.
  • To be held on the public grass area outside the Aotea Centre

Running group

  • Do you have a passion for running?
  • Expressions of interests for volunteers to lead the group around Auckland
  • Early morning

Walking tour

  • Do you have an interest in Auckland? Do you know the history or architect?
  • Expressions of interests for volunteers to take a group on a walking tour of Auckland city
  • Early morning or late afternoon.

Health professionals have talent

Are you a budding musician, singer, dancer or poet? Or can you wow with the sleight of hand? If you are a multi-talented professional, then we would like to hear from you!

We are currently on the scout for health professionals that can provide top quality performances to surprise and delight our attendees throughout Congress.

  • All shows must be no longer than four minutes in length
  • A total of eight slots will be available (Monday – 3, Tuesday – 4 and Wednesday – 1)
  • A specific time slot cannot be guaranteed until after the submission close date
  • AV is very limited, and the program will run on a tight schedule. A standard spotlight and data projection is available.
  • You are responsible for loading in and out your set, props and costumes for your show. Storage space is limited.
  • If you are not selected for the ‘main stage’ you will be offered an ‘open mic’ session within the exhibition and communal areas during break times

‘Unplugged’ one

The ‘unplugged’ zone is designed for delegates to take time away from the hustle and bustle of Congress and give themselves a mindful break by viewing the creative talents of their fellow health professionals, such as photography, art or sculpture.

How do you like to relax and recharge, do you have a passion or hobby to shout about? If so, we would love to celebrate your works and include them within our art exhibition showcase and we are currently open for submissions.

  • You are responsible for arranging transportation of your art piece
  • The exhibition area is an open area for delegates to roam and view the artwork on display.
  • Visual artists accepted to the RACP Congress Fringe Experience will be given space to display art in the unplugged zone.
    You must advise your preferred display method. The RACP will try to accommodate all requests.
  • No AV is provided in this area.
  • The RACP is unable to provide assistance towards transportation, your Congress registration, your accommodation or travel expenses.

**Please note that your request for a Fringe performance or unplugged zone must be made on your original submission. We have the right to choose the area most appropriate for your performance. **

The selection process

Acceptance into RACP Congress Fringe Experience program is supported by a panel of RACP members. All submissions will be reviewed, evaluated and selected by this panel. All submitters will be notified in writing on the outcome.
