Dr Patrick Alley
Dr Patrick Alley is a New Zealand trained general surgeon who has spent most of his professional life at North Shore Hospital in Auckland. His interests were principally colorectal cancer, trauma care and managing the interface between clinicians and health managers. He has additional qualifications in professional ethics and has also been recognised for his contribution to clinical teaching, he was the first, and to date, the only New Zealand recipient of the Educator of the Year from the Australasian Council for Postgraduate Medical Education.
Dr Alley is now retired from clinical practice and is the clinical director for a medium sized private hospital in South Auckland. He is also a member of the National Clinical Medical Committee of Southern Cross Hospitals and is a council member of AUT University in Auckland. He writes opinions for ACC on treatment injury and is also an expert advisor to the Health and Disability Commissioner. He has an abiding interest in indigenous health and chairs the Maori Health Action Programme for RACS.More information soon
