Ms Leonie Matoe (Ngaa Rauru, Ngaa Ruahine)

Leonie began her career as a Nutrition and Physical Activity Health Promoter for Māori Health Organisation, ‘Te Hotu Manawa Māori’ in 2001. Leonie has worked alongside Māori health professionals designing and delivering community health and the Māori public health workforce development initiatives for over 10 years. As CEO of national health agency Toi Tangata, Leonie successfully grew and developed a range of innovative workforce development programmes and Māori community health initiatives, positioning Toi Tangata as leaders in Māori Public Health Nutrition and Physical Activity. More recently Leonie has been applying her knowledge and skills to the area of Indigenous Māori Economic Development. As Business Development Manager for her iwi Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi, Leonie has led the development of a new indigenous food enterprise named Kaitahi™.

The aim of Kaitahi is to consciously create wellbeing and Leonie will be sharing her experience and insight to demonstrate how Indigenous Māori enterprise development is rising to the challenge of obesity.
